Dr Alexis Barlow

Alexis has a BA in Business Information Management and a teaching qualification in PGC Advanced Academic Studies. More recently, she was awarded a PhD on the ‘Strategic Role of Internet-Related Technologies in Supply Chain Networks’ from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Alexis has been with Glasgow Caledonian University for six years and is currently in the Strategy, Operations and Leadership group of the Business School. Postgraduate and undergraduate teaching is mainly related to e-business strategy, strategic information systems and supply chain management. In particular, she is the Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy Coordinator for her group.

Specialisms & Interests

Alexis’s main fields of interest are related to recent developments in information systems, aligning information systems with business strategy and using IS to exploit strategic value, competitive advantage and for reconfiguring business processes.

Professional Memberships & Activities

Alexis is a member of the British Academy of Management (BAM).

She is currently serving as a track chair for E-Business and E-Government at BAM 2006.

Alexis has reviewed papers for a variety of journals and conferences including Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, Journal of Electronic Commerce in Organizations, International Journal of Information Technology & Management and BAM.

She was the winner of the Blackwell Prize for E-Business and Technology Management at the BAM Annual Conference 2003.

Current Research

Alexis’s current research focuses on the impact of e-business technologies on supply chain management. In particular it is concentrating on opportunities such as developing and coordinating supply chain processes, integration and information sharing and advancing supply chain relationships. It is also looking at limitations such as cultural, social and security factors and the implications of e-business for supply chains in terms of power relations, structure etc.  

Selected Consulting Projects

Alexis is involved in a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project concerning Glasgow Caledonian University and Kennedys Patent Agency. The purpose of the project is to develop an integrated practice management system which interfaces with staff on multiple sites, clients, patent and trade mark offices and associate firms.
